I-76 west ramp to 30th Street to close periodically overnight
King of Prussia, PA – Interstate 76 will be reduced to one lane in each direction between the Interstate 676 and South Street interchanges in Philadelphia on Monday, December 10, through Friday, December 14, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for construction on the viaduct carrying Schuylkill Avenue over the expressway between Walnut Street and Market Street, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
In addition, the ramp from westbound I-76 to 30th Street will be closed periodically on Monday, December 10, through Friday, December 14, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for construction on the viaduct. Motorists normally using the ramp will be detoured west on I-76, east on I-676 to the 22nd Street Exit, north on 22nd Street to the ramp to I-676 west, then east on I-76 to the 30th Street Exit.
Motorists are advised to use an alternate route or allow additional time for travel on I-76 near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled closures are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
The lane and ramp closures will allow crews to continue repairs, deck construction and painting on two sections of the Schuylkill Avenue viaduct over I-76.
The work is part of PennDOT’s $103.6 million project to rehabilitate the Chestnut Street bridge over the Schuylkill River and eight other nearby structures, including those carrying Schuylkill Avenue over I-76 between Walnut Street and Chestnut Street, and between Chestnut Street and Market Street.
