August 10, 2018 – Overnight lane and ramp restrictions will be in place on Interstate 76 August 13-16 near 30th Street in Philadelphia for construction on the viaduct carrying Schuylkill Avenue over the expressway between Walnut Street and Market Street and on the ramp from westbound I-76 to 30th Street.
On Monday, August 13, through Thursday, August 16, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, I-76 will be reduced to a single lane in both directions between the South Street and Interstate 676 interchanges for bridge construction and median installation.
In addition, the ramp from westbound I-76 to 30th Street will close on Monday, August 13, through Thursday, August 16, from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for repairs. I-76 West motorists normally using the ramp will be directed to exit at South Street, turn right on South Street, left on 22nd Street and left on Market Street to reach 30th Street.
Construction crews on the $103.6 million project are repairing or replacing the viaduct’s deteriorated steel deck beams and cross members and the ramp’s expansion dams and concrete pavement.
PennDOT is rehabilitating the Chestnut Street bridge over the Schuylkill River and seven other nearby structures, including those carrying Schuylkill Avenue over I-76 between Walnut Street and Chestnut Street, and between Chestnut Street and Market Street.
