Chestnut St. Bridge over Schuylkill Closes Mid-June for Construction

PennDOT’s contractor is gearing up close the Chestnut Street Bridge over the Schuylkill River for approximately one year beginning in mid-June 2019 for a major rehabilitation — including steel repairs, repainting and re-decking — of the bridge .

The bridge will be closed to motorists, pedestrians and cyclists for the duration of the closure.

For Motorists...Chestnut Street will be CLOSED between Schuylkill Avenue and 24th Street.

For Boaters ...Schuylkill River will be partially closed under the bridge one-half channel at a time.

For Pedestrians...Chestnut Street will be CLOSED between Schuylkill Avenue and 24th Street.  Pedestrians will be detoured  on 30th Street to Walnut Street east to 23rd Street north to Chestnut Street.

Schuylkill River Trail Users...The Trail will be CLOSED at Chestnut Street...Trail users will be detoured to the Trail access at Walnut Street or Market Street.

For Bicyclists...Chestnut Street will be CLOSED between Schuylkill Avenue and 24th Street. Cyclists will be detoured on 30th Street to eastbound Market Street to southbound 23rd Street to Chestnut Street.
