King of Prussia, PA – Westbound Interstate 76 will be reduced to a single lane between the South Street and Interstate 676 interchanges in Philadelphia on Monday, May 14, through Thursday, May 17, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, for construction on the viaduct carrying Schuylkill Avenue over the expressway between Walnut Street and Market Street, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
In addition to the westbound I-76 lane closure, eastbound I-76 may be reduced to a single lane periodically between the South Street and Interstate 676 interchanges on Monday, May 14, through Thursday, May 17, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning.
Motorists are advised to use an alternate route or allow additional time for travel on westbound I-76 through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
Construction crews on the $103.6 million project are removing sections of the existing concrete deck from the viaduct and repairing or replacing the viaduct’s deteriorated steel deck beams and cross members.
PennDOT is rehabilitating the Chestnut Street bridge over the Schuylkill River and seven other nearby structures, including those carrying Schuylkill Avenue over I-76 between Walnut Street and Chestnut Street, and between Chestnut Street and Market Street.
